I work as a PostDoc researcher at the Institute of Botany at the University of Hohenheim (Germany). I focus on hunter-gatherer societies and I have worked in different geographical regions, from Tierra del Fuego (Argentina), to Russia, Scotland or the Iberian Peninsula. In order to better understand the archaeobotanical data I constantly draw upon ethnographic and ethnobotanical information. I am deeply interested in the production processes based on plant raw materials. Under the framework of the PlantCult project I am investigating the traditional production of Grünkern (green harvested spelt subsequently smoked to enhance its shelf-life), as well as the traditional brewing of barley beer as well as other beer types. Along with the ethnographic studies, samples of recent cereals will be taken to produce a set of charred comparison material to be used for the identification of archaeobotanical remains.
